Our Programme
The daily programme is a combination of child initiated play and planned group learning experiences. Christian values and beliefs are woven throughout our curriculum to promote hope, peace, love, and joy.
Each child has an Individual learning plan completed in partnership with their parents/whanau and their learning journey is documented in their Profile book. Parents can take the Profile book home regularly so that they and their child can add their own anecdotal stories, pictures and photos of the special events that happen outside of our centre. Our teachers and children enjoy sharing these with each other and it gives a holistic view of each child's development and learning.
We recognise that our tamariki learn best alongside and with each other in a fun learning environment where they have opportunities to share, make friendships and test out their working theories of the world around them and make new discoveries. Our teachers respond to the needs and interests of the children with planned Group learning experiences and Inquiry Learning. Our team also have a set of learning priorities for our children - early literacy and numeracy, technology, visual arts, social competence, risk takers, resilience and healthy bodies. Developing these abilities prepares our children for their successful transition to school and for life in the 21st century.
Our children are encouraged to help look after our environment including preparing for our group time routines, tidying up, and even tending to the vegetable garden (they like eating the fruit of their effort!). They also like to share the lead at group times and there is no shortage of dedicated volunteers to share their news-smiles.
We have exursions out and about and these provide rich learning experiences for us all. We also invite people from our community to share their occupations with the children e.g ambulance, police, librarian, firemen. These visits excite the children who can make links with their wider community.
Our curriculum is based on Te Whariki (Early Childhood Curriculum) which focuses on:
Well-being – Mana Atua
The health and well-being of the child are protected and nurtured.
Belonging – Mana Whenua
Children and their families feel a sense of belonging.
Contribution – Mana Tangata
Opportunities for learning are equitable, and each child’s contribution is valued.
Communication – Mana Reo
The languages and symbols of their own and other cultures are promoted and protected.
Exploration – Mana Aotūroa
The child learns through active exploration of the environment.
